Georgia Freed was my grandmother. She passed away on November 1, 2011 as a result of this terrible disease. She was the most giving and caring person that I have ever known. Up until she couldn't talk anymore anytime you would ask her how she was doing, it was always fine, no matter how bad she was feeling. That was her, she'd give anyone the shirt off her back even if she couldn't afford another one. She didn't want people to worry, she was strong for all of us.
She was a wonderful woman and is survived by her husband, Ron Freed, who never left her side until the end.
I am running my first 10K in honor of her on Sunday, August 12, 2012 in Chicago. This is the furthest distance that I have ever ran, and I am not worried at all. I know when the time comes and I'm tired, and I don't think I can go any further, when the muscles start to cramp and the body starts to hurt, she will lift me up and give me the strength that I need to finish.
Please join me in raising money to help fight the Alzheimer's battle. Every little bit helps. This one's for you Grandma.
