Mose Macfie

Dr. Mose Macfie, Jr.
Greenville, SC

Dr. Jefferys Ashe "Mose" Macfie, Jr. age 71, of 107 Buckingham Road, passed away Monday evening, December 7, 2009, at NHC Mauldin, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers.

He was a native of Brevard, North Carolina and a son of the late Jefferys Ashe Macfie and Rebecca Summey Macfie.

He was a 1960 graduate of Clemson College with a BS in chemistry. During his Clemson years, he was in the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Blue Key, Tiger Brotherhood, Judicial Council, and was the Director of the 1st Tigeramma. He was a 1964 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and he served his General Surgery Residency and Endocrine Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill.

He was a Major, U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1970-72 serving in Tacoma, Washington.

Following his discharge, he and Betty moved to Greenville where he was in private practice with Carolina Surgical Associates until 1999. He then was associated with Upstate Surgical Associates until his retirement in 2001.

Professionally he was a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, South Carolina Medical Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Thyroid Association, Nathan Womack Surgical Society, Greenville County Medical Society and the South Carolina Surgical Society.

He was also a member of the Greenville Country Club, the Sapphire Lakes Country Club in Sapphire, N.C., the Carolinian Debutante Club and the Beaux Arts.

Dr. Macfie was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 47 years, Betty Finley Macfie, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Rebeckah Macfie III of Greenville; his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Dr. Robert Goodlett of Spartanburg; his brother, Greg Macfie of Brevard, N.C.; and beloved grandchildren, Liza Goodlett, Ashe Macfie IV, Field Goodlett, Sam Macfie, Mary Clare Macfie and Mille Macfie; nephew, John Macfie.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at National Healthcare in Mauldin for the loving care given to Mose.
