Two comfort stations will be located along the Walk route for participants to access temporary restroom facilities, first aid services, and water (please be sure to bring a water bottle to the event).

Dogs:
We recommend that you do not bring your dog(s) to the event. Due to the large number of people and the unknown disposition of dogs that may be in attendance, the Alzheimer's Association cannot be responsible for the safety of your pet.

Festivities Area

Check-In:
All participants are required to check in on the morning of the Walk and receive an event wristband in order to access the event festivities and participate in the Walk. Captains may NOT check in for the entire team. Be sure to register every participant in advance to make the check-in process fast and easy on Walk Day!

Refreshments:
We will have a refreshment tent filled with goodies on Walk Day. If you’re hungry when the event ends, grab your purple crew and head into the Marina District, as we want to support the neighborhood!

Hydration Station:
A water station will be located at the park for participants to fill their water bottles. Please be sure to bring your own water bottle to the event.

Stop by and visit the booths for our Walk sponsors and partners. You’ll have an opportunity to collect valuable information and learn about local programs, services, facilities, research, and more.

Team Meeting Area:
Meet-up with your teammates and a grab a table at our team meeting area! We will have reserved tables for our Top 20 teams and all other tables will be first come, first served. As a courtesy to our other participants, please do not save more than one table for your party. We will also have a tent in the team meeting area where you grab or make a sign to carry with you on the walk. The 'Top Teams' with the highest fundraising totals will receive a reserved table in the Team Meeting Area.

Grand Champion Tent:
Are you a 'Grand Champion'? Walkers who raise $1,000 or more will have access to exclusive benefits at the Walk! Benefits include express check-in, coffee, complimentary massage, and more. Eligible participants will receive a Grand Champion email the week before the Walk that includes more information about the Grand Champion area.

What happens if it rains?
Walk is a rain or shine event. However, in the case of severe weather, we will cancel. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.

How do I get a Promise Garden flower?
On Walk Day, you will receive a wristband. Each registered walker with a wristband will receive a Promise Garden flower. Please choose the color that best represents your connection to the disease.

  • Blue represents someone with Alzheimer's or dementia
  • Purple is for someone who has lost a loved one to the disease.
  • Yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.
  • Orange is for everyone who supports the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

Where will Walk day team photos be posted?
Following the event, all photos will be posted to our flickr account here. If you’re using Instagram or Facebook to post your own photos please be sure to use our hashtag #walk2endalz.

Parking and Transportation

Vehicle Parking:
Free self-parking is available at Marina Middle School, 3500 Filmore Avenue, Bay Street Entrance. Please arrive early to guarantee your spot! We will have continuous shuttles running between Marina Middle School and Crissy Field all morning. There are additional first come, first served parking spaces around Crissy Field; however, please note that parking restrictions and time limits are strictly enforced and are in effect on Sundays beginning at 8:00 am. For more parking info, please visit: http://www.presidio.gov/transportation/Driving-and-Parking

ADA/Handicapped Parking:
We will have limited spaces available for disabled parking. If you require accessible parking, please email sfwalk@alz.org and let us know ahead of time.

Alternative Transportation:
Due to the large number of participants, we strongly recommend ridesharing or traveling by bike whenever possible. Follow the signs near Crissy Field for Lyft/Uber dropoffs. Private buses may drop-off and pick-up participants in the shuttle turnaround area in front of Stilwell Hall at the intersection of McDowell and Old Mason, and then park for free at Marina Middle School. Free bike parking will be available in the Festivities Area. (Please note that BART does not begin running until 8:00 am on Sundays, so this is not an ideal way to get to Crissy Field in time for the 8:30 am opening ceremony. However, if BART is your only transportation option, you might consider using the Lyft promo code below to catch a discounted ride from the BART station.)

NEW! 20% Lyft Discount:
Our friends at Lyft have offered a special promotion just for San Francisco Walkers! Participants who use Lyft to travel to/from Crissy Field on the morning of 9/10/17 are eligible to receive 20% off (up to $5). Make sure to enter the code WALK2ENDALZ under the "Promos" tab in the Lyft app. Lyft's terms apply.

General Information

Where do the funds go?
All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Do I have to register in order to Walk?
Yes, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every walker to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

Do I need to register my children for Walk?
Yes, children should register. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.

Does every walker get a T-shirt?
Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt after achieving the fundraising minimum of $100. Unless otherwise communicated, T-shirts will be available for pick up on Walk day.

How do I get my offline donations to show up on my personal fundraising Web page?
Donations can be made offline by submitting a check or money order by mail or hand-delivering to the local Alzheimer’s Association office. Be sure to include your offline donation form, which can be found in your Participant Center or on your fundraising Web page, to make sure you receive credit for the donation. Donations typically take 1-2 weeks to show up on your Web page.
