General Information

Where do the funds go?
All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts Alzheimer's Association.The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Do I have to register in order to Walk?
Yes, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every walker to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Registration can be done online or offline via a paper-registration form.  A paper registration form can be found on the Portland Walk home page.  Under the big green "Register" button is a link to a paper registration form.  Please print this and fax it to 503-416-0199 or mail it to our Portland office at 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190 Portland, OR 97209.  You may also hand it in the day of the Walk.

Do I need to register my children for Walk?
Yes, all children must be registered.  Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.

Does every walker get a T-shirt?
Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt after achieving the fundraising minimum of $100. 

How do I get my Event Day T-Shirt and Wrist Band?

T-shirts and wristbands will be available for pick up the day of the Walk, or T-shirts will be available the week prior during Bank Week. Turn in last-minute donations and get your shirts! Team captains and any Walker is welcome to come hand in money, as well as pick up T-shirts for those who have raised $100 or more and registration.  Wrist bands will be given only to the individual during Bank Week.  If Walker's are not picking up wrist bands ahead of time, they may pick these up on Walk day.  Every Walker including children will be required to be registered and have a wristband.   Bank Week hours are:

                                           Tuesday September 5th 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

                                           Wednesday September 6th 8:30 am - 12 pm

                                           Wendesday September 6th Evening By Appointment Only 

                                           Thursday September 7th 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

How do I get my offline donations to show up on my personal fundraising Web page?

Donations can be made offline by submitting a check or money order by mail or hand-delivering to the Portland Alzheimer’s Association office.

Be sure to include your offline donation form, which can be found in your Participant Center or on your fundraising Web page, to make sure you receive credit for the donation. Donations typically take 1-2 weeks to show up on your Web page, so please include time for processing and handeling.

I am with a care community and we want to register for the Activity Bus Rally! How do we do that?

That is great! If your community is signed-up as a team we welcome you to register for the Bus Rally and BUS PLUS!  Check back here for official sign-up.  

There is a Classic Car Show! How do I enter my car?

Just show up to Portland International Raceway between 8:30am and 9:30am.  Follw directions on-site that say CAR SHOW.  You will be lined up as you arrive.  Walkers cn vote for their favorite, an award for People's Choice will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place during Opening Ceremonies.  

How do I VOTE for my favorite car and favorite care community activity bus?

Bring your dollars!  For $1  walkers can vote for their favorite car and activity bus! The car and bus with the most votes will win a "People's Choice" trophy.

What is the event day schedule?

How will I find my walk team?

We will have a Team "Meet Up" area.  Each team should make arrangements to meet at the yellow, blue or red sign in the “Meet Up" area.  Team captains you pick your color and let your walkers know!  (e.g., ““Our team will meet at the blue sign at 11:15 am.”). Team captain, when you arrive on site, be sure to add your team name to the board.  

Can donations be turned in on Walk day?

Definitely! If you have last-minute donations, bring them to the Walk!

Are strollers, bicycles, skates, etc. allowed on Walk day?

We do allow strollers, but for everyone’s safety, we discourage skateboards, bicycles, inline skates and wheelie footwear.   

What happens if it rains?
Walk is a rain-or-shine event. Check the weather and dress appropriately! September weather in Oregon can be warm or cool, sunny or rainy.  

Will there be parking?

Portland International Raceway has a large parking lot and walkers have access to it. We are asking for a $5 donation for parking.

Will there be food?

There will be complimentary refreshments for walkers on the Walk route.   Portland International Raceway also has on-site food available for purchase.

Will there be first aid?

Yes! There will be a first-aid tent.  

How do I get a Promise Garden flower?

On Walk day, you will receive a wristband. Each registered walker with a wristband will receive a Promise Garden flower. Please choose the color that best represents your connection to the disease.

  • Blue represents someone with Alzheimer's or dementia
  • Purple is for someone who has lost a loved one to the disease.
  • Yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.
  • Orange is for everyone who supports the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

Where will Walk day team photos be posted?
We will post team photos and general event photos on our Facebook page!  Be sure to visit our Facebook page and share, tag, comment on, and like photos!  For all social media, be sure to use hashtag #walk2endalz.  

 We need volunteers! Know anyone who might be interested in helping us on the day of the event?

We need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, the Promise Garden, the T-shirt tent and so much more. All interested volunteers should visit our volunteer page for more information about event-day roles and responsibilities.
