David Dekker, in the words of his son, Thomas:
I have not spoken of it in public til now, but as you have always been my greatest of supporters and friends, I wanted you to be the first to hear. You may or may not know that I have spoken on multiple occasions of my greatest mentor, friend, idol, brother and father with glowing remarks and insatiable pride. The man that was David Dekker, my biggest inspiration and love in life, passed away on September 16.
As he suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past ten years, his passing is both a joyful release of freedom for his all too electric spirit, and a tragic, horrific crush to my heart. But in this time of grief, I have witnessed the epiphany of life and death. I believe now, that nothing stops and nothing dies. He believed the same. There are those among us, in every person's life, even if we are unaware, that exist as a part of us. A part of our heart, mind, values and body. And I feel nothing but honor and privelage to have been molded by this eccentric, open minded, artistic, endlessly talented and wonderful man. I wish you all could have known him. I wish everyone could have known him for that matter. He truly, and I can say this with utmost certainty and gratitude, was the only person in my life who never once, not even slightly hurt me. He was a stroke of genius and an embrace of kindness all the way to the end.
I am still so greatful for the generous donation the Dekker Daily community made to the Alzheimer's foundation and research. I can't think, especially in retrosepct, of a more personally touching or thoughtful gift from such wonderful whacky people, most of whom I have never even had the pleasure of meeting.
The link below leads to an article that was in a Las Vegas paper, where my father lived and passed. Hopefully, it can shine a little more light than I can compose here, on the man who made me produce any of the work I have taken part in that you have enjoyed.

Thomas, you're an amazing and inspiring person and I love that you do this each year. And as usual, I will donate to Alzheimers UK and encourage my readers to as well, not just in memory of your father and celebration of your birthday but for my grandmother too, who we also lost to complications from a long suffering with AD. Happy birthday thomas, I live in Jackson, OH and I'm a big fan of yours and tscc. I have no money to donate but I think charity is awesome. I donate my time to kawanis, Elk's, and heart assoc. My mother has parkensen's disease and I wish they would find a cure but that takes money. Sorry I couldn't donate but happy birthday. Bill Wildman

So right now, I'm sitting on the beach, and finally decided to send you an official birthday message! Hey Thomas! First off, I'd like to wish you a happy 24th birthday! You definitely deserve a fantastic day, and I hope that it has been truly epic! I remember watching the secret circle for the first time, wondering who this awesome actor was who magically made water float. I soon watched many of your other works, which I greatly enjoyed, and then wondered across to a website called Dekker Daily, weeks away from your birthday. From here, I read your message and about your father, and knew that if I donated, I could make a difference to somebody's life. I donated today, to a fund in Australia, and I've never felt so good. So, thank you for being such an inspiration, and now I know my paycheck from this week has gone into something worthy. Thanks for everything Thomas and enjoy the rest of your day!

Hapy birthday Thomas! What a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday. It doesn't always occur to me to donate to worthy causes like this one, but I think this is going to be a great yearly tradition for all of your fans.
I'm a researcher, though not directly involved in Alzheimer's research, but I do enjoy being part of the scientific community. We are working hard! |

I gotta say i get obssesed with you: I spent all the day singing Psyanotic, and i was all the day watching videos of some of your movies. I hope we will get the cure to this horrible disease soon. There's so many things I'd like to say to you, but I'll try and make it short. It seems like 2011 has been an amazing year for you, professionally, and I couldn't be more proud of you. I don't know what 2012 might bring you but I do hope it will be just as great as the past few months. I'm looking forward to see you in whatever your future projects might be, cause even if it's a real pain here in France not to be able to see your films as soon as it's out, I'm always excited and emotional when I finally get a chance to see you on my screen. My mother also has Alzheimers and it is a devastating disease to watch in someone that you know and love so much. It is frightening and heartbreaking for all concerned. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! We don't know eachother, however from what you wrote about your father, I can tell with the grace and eloquence and unabashed love you felt for him you're one hell of a Guy! And trust me your one in a million! Which makes me like you and all the roles you play more enjoyable! I'm honored to be your fan. I've followed your career for awhile, and I'd bet your dad was proud, loud and happy as shiat to have such an unbelievable son. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
