Fundraising Honor Roll

My name is Rev. Brett Maddocks and I am honored and humbled to be part of the team for Dancing Stars of Columbus this year.  I am originally from Lake Park, GA in Lowndes County.  I graduated from Lowndes High School and Valdosta State University.  At VSU, I met my beautiful wife Jessica and we were married in 2004.  After college we moved close to Lexington, KY where I went to seminary.  After I graduated with my master’s degree in 2009, we moved to Columbus upon being appointed to the staff of St. Luke United Methodist Church where I am an associate Pastor and the Minister of Discipleship.  Jessica and I have two wonderful boys, Eli (8) and Jack (5) and a beagle named Ellie.

I first got involved the Alzheimer’s Association of Columbus a couple of years ago when I was asked to be one of the judges for the Dancing Stars of Columbus in 2017.  Again, I am honored to be asked back this year as a star dancer.

I am participating this year for three reasons.  First, my family, especially on my wife’s side, has had a personal connection with this disease.  Watching the deterioration that Alzheimer’s brought upon my wife’s grandmother and the impact of caring for her had on the entire family was eye-opening and heartbreaking.  Second, St. Luke Church has a Respite Care ministry that offers a respite care for a number of adults dealing with cognitive issues including Alzheimer’s.  It is a ministry of care for the families who sacrifice so much to care for their loved ones as well as to those who have the disease.  Third, I believe that there is a cure out there and that it is close.  There is such hopelessness with this diagnosis, and I am a big believer in hope.  I know that we are close to bring hope to millions.  That hope comes from the brilliant doctors and researchers who are sacrificing so much to find a cure.  It also comes from you.  Would you show you are a believer in hope like I am and donate to this wonderful cause?  And as you donate, please consider voting for me and my dancing partner/PRO Tracie Chamblee.  Thank you!  Hope is out there.
