I believe that we should all do things that are out of our comfort zone! So when I was asked to participate in Dancing Stars of Columbus, I couldn't say no. Especially because it is for such great cause. By participating in this event, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.
I grew up in Nebraska and did take jazz, tap, and ballet when I was young. I quickly realized that I was better suited for sports... I have always loved to dance though and I love a good wedding reception for the opportunity to get out on the dance floor (much to my children's horror)! My husband, Ryan, and I moved to Columbus in 2008 and it feels like home to us. We have 3 children who attend St. Luke School. We are blessed to have made lifelong friends here. I am an ophthalmologist at West Georgia Eye Care, specializing in glaucoma. In my free time, I love reading, running, and spending time with my family and friends.
I am dancing in honor of Ryan's grandmother, Philamena, who is 93 and is afflicted by Alzheimer's Disease. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Please vote with your dollars and come watch us dance on April 5th! I am looking forward to working with my pro partner, Josh. He has his work cut out for him!!
