My name is Mary Bailey Bryan and I am so excited and honored to be a part of Dancing Stars of Columbus to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
I was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia and graduated from Brookstone High School. I attended the University of Mississippi (Go Rebels!) where I played soccer and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. Shortly thereafter, I graduated from Augusta University's Physician Assistant Program (formerly known as the Medical College of Georgia). For the past two and a half years my husband, Ben, and I have lived in Tampa, Florida and now, we are thrilled to be back in our hometown. I enjoy walking our two German shorthaired pointers, Letty and Fowler, at Lake Bottom Park, playing tennis and soccer, hitting the gym, and reading. I grew up dancing at Patty Taylor's Academy of Fine Arts and Toni's Dancing School and have always had a love for dance. I am currently a physician assistant for Dr. Sean Blake, hand surgeon at St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute, who is supporting me while I trade in my stethoscope for dancing shoes.
As a healthcare provider, I have witnessed the deleterious effects of Alzheimer's disease firsthand, both for the patient and their families. On a personal level, my grandmother was recently diagnosed with dementia. Watching her lose the ability to recall the fun times we have had together and struggle through conversations has been heartbreaking.
Through Dancing Stars of Columbus, I will have the opportunity to bring awareness to this tragic medical condition and to help fund an association that will hopefully one day find the cure. I look forward to being a part this worthy endeavor. Thank you!
