Fundraising Honor Roll

Let me tell you my story.  I was the youngest of three, born and raised in a smalltown in Ohio, Portsmouth.  I moved to Dalton, Georgia in 1985.  I'm a mother of 3, grandmother, wife to Brennon Smith Sr., and between us we have 6 kids and 4 grandsons.  I'm a massage therapist contracted by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee since 2005.

My family has journeyed through Alzheimer's (grandmother), Inflammatory Breast Cancer (sister) and MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) (brother),  In 1996, my grandmother, Myrtle was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  Due to her condition my parents moved her in where she lived with them for 19 months.  During this time I observed the strain and struggle it was for my parents to watch over and take care of her.  I remember the times when we would visit, my middle child Jillie, would play "drive-thru window" and take her McDonald's order, or give her a spelling test and/or play "catch the ball".  Jillie was 6 years old at the time and watching her interact with her great grandmother was priceless.  My parents were not aware if an Alzheimer's Association Chapter was in Portsmouth, they just did what they had to do.  After 19 months, my parents had no other option but to place her in a nursing home where she lived an additional 5 months.  I am not afraid to step up to the plate and help when help is needed.  When my sister, Sherry was diagnosed with breast cancer, we received donations for the Relay For Life in Portsmouth.  She was a courageous fighter till the end. I miss her so much.  When my brother was diagnosed with MDS, I called to see what I could do...I was tested to see if my stem cells were a match and they were!  On February 4, 2016, I donated my stem cells to my brother Ken.  He recently celebrated his ONE year birthday!  God is so Good!

In life we are faced with challenges.  Big or small.  We have to keep going.  No matter the situation, no matter the circumstance...Never, never, never give up!  God has a plan, just trust HIM.  Keep believing!

THE BEST IS YET TO COME
