Rev. Deb's Walk Donation Page
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
I’m upping my challenge amount and reached my goal of $500!
As you may know, I am a hospice chaplain with Jewish Social Services Agency. Many of my patients (past and present) have had Alzheimer's and other dementias. The toll on families and caregivers is enormous. The emotional toll is even more.
My long, circuitious route to being a pastor and chaplain started in the 1970s, when my grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. As his health declined, his dementia increased. The man who was a school psychologist, was extremely well-read, served as an elder in his church, and was a caring, loving grandparent, was gently, slowly losing the ability to walk, talk and converse with us. I remember hearing him play the piano, and enjoying his homemade bread. Yeasty, buttery white bread with its "come-hither" smell was made by my mom as well... and now by me.
There are things we can remember and celebrate about our family, friends, and patients with Alzheimers. We are their memory. We offer stories and keep linking them to the present with our visits. And we can also make a difference for them in supporting walks like this one.
I hope you'll consider sponsoring me on this walk. As little as $5, $10, or $25 will make a difference. OR -- if you'd like to walk with us, you're welcome to join the JSSA team! Unlike other fundraising walks, the Alzheimer's Walk costs you nothing to register. Your presence is a huge support in and of itself.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
With my thanks and prayers for a brighter future ...
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
