Richard “Dick” A. Pearce, age 77, passed away peacefully Sunday night, August 21, 2011 in his Central Point, Oregon home. He left this world enveloped in the warm touch and loving words of family near and far.
Dick was born on February 12, 1934 to parents Jeannette and Eben Pearce in Watsonville, California. He was the only sibling to beloved older brother Bill Pearce, who died in 1996. In 1952, after graduating from high school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dick married Evelyn Zarr. Together, they raised six children: Carol, Barb, Dave, Kathy, Teresa, and Karen. Also in 1952, and through 1954, he served in the US Army as a Special Forces Paratrooper. In 1961, Dick and family moved to Long Beach, California, where he joined the city’s police force. After over 20 years of dedicated service to the community, he retired from the Long Beach Police Department in 1982, as Desk Sergeant. In the same year, Dick married his second wife, Anne Simper, and became stepfather to Chris, Julie, and Jennifer. That summer, the family moved from California to the rural community of Ruch in Southern Oregon.
Dick was an avid lover of nature and the slower pace it offered. He was happiest when outdoors wearing a cowboy hat or baseball cap, working hard, accompanied by one of his four-legged friends. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as landscaping, gardening, hunting, and horseback riding with family or friends. He had a solid belief and love for the Lord Jesus and never forgot to be thankful for his rich life.
Dick is remembered as a strong and incredibly kind man, who generously gave of himself by sharing his wisdom, life lessons, guidance, and love. He lives on in the memories and lives of his 9 children, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, friends, and doting wife of almost 30 years, who lovingly and tirelessly cared for him during his struggles with Alzheimer’s disease. His family is comforted knowing he is now released from his physical suffering and is with the Lord he loves.
Dick's ashes are buried at the VA National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon. A private memorial will be held in October in Jacksonville, Oregon. Donations are appreciated in his loving memory to The Alzheimer's Association.
He is dearly loved and missed by so many.

Dear Grandpa,
I am dearly missing you, but I know you are with the Lord. It wasn't what you said but who you were. I know someday I will see you again. Love you grandpa, Crystal.

Uncle I will miss you, your big grin, and your huge loving heart. Your love for the Lord is was helped lead your brother to accept Christ on his hospital bed days before his death. I know you are both together now and I look forward to the next great reunion! Praise God
