Grandma Mona was kind, caring, and (most of all) feisty. Everyone was welcomed at Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas Eve dinner (before the Jehovah's Witness days), and everyone got a $5 bill snuck into their pockets "just because" on their birthdays (after the Jehovah's Witness days). Everybody called her Grandma Mona, but I was lucky that she really is mine. She passed down a love of the Seattle Mariners (through thick and thin), solitaire and Kings Corner, and fried mashed potatoes.
We lost Grandma Mona many times - first with lost memories, then with lost spirit, and eventually with a tired body. I miss her everyday, and want to do everything I can to stop other families from dealing with the prolonged grief associated with Alzheimer's and other dementia.
Alzheimer's isn't stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease - funds that allow the Alzheimer's Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us - and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease.
