I walk for Alzheimer's first survivor and in memory of my father, Ronald Bowen. My dad was a civil engineer, an environmental leader, and an amazing father and husband. He was diagnosed at the age of 63 and passed away three years later from severe Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. This disease is a nightmare!
Alzheimer's Disease is the most expensive disease in America. There is no treatment, no prevention, and no cure. We must direct funds toward research, care and support and the Walk to End Alzheimer's does just that! 77% of funds go back to local communities to fund research and provide resources for families as well as advocacy. My father participated in a research study funded by the Alzheimer's Association, called the IDEAS study which looks at the use of amyloid PET scans in early detection. The Alzheimer's Association also provides support groups for families.
5.8 million Americans have this disease and this number is expected to rise. 26,000 Delawareans are affected and 5,000 live in Sussex County. Join me in the fight to ENDALZ!!
