Save the Date! October 5, 2024
How to start this year...Joe passed away on January 26th. It was what Hospice calls "a beautiful passing". No struggle or fear, he gave us a big smile right at the end, perhaps seeing his new home and his parents there to greet him. Laura, Joanna & I received the gift to be there when he slipped away. Mark, Alex & Todd arrived soon after. I know he's happy now and although sad, we are happy for him.
His sister Anna May also passed away this year, on April 23rd, to a form of dementia. She's in the picture with Joe several years ago at her and husband George's anniversary party. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My thanks to his loving family and faithful friends who now check on our family. Besides prayers and donations, that's another way you can honor Joe: reach out to other caregivers who are struggling, with a phone call or note every now and then. I try to do that for others. It will mean a lot! I received many cards after his passing, and a few still trickle in. My advice: it's never too late to send a condolence.
We continue raising funds to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's(R), I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, care and support. There's lots to be done.
We will again do our own walk this year on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 at the Kevin Hammersmith Park in New Albany. Please join us for lunch and a walk around the park and over to see Joe's bench. It was a great day last year. So many attended. Such faithful friends we are blessed to have!
Please consider a donation or join my team to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. I can't say enough about all the help they've given us!
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you and me!
