This year's Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's will be a special one for my family. My mom, Sheri, took the bull by the horns and started a quest to bring the walk to Manhattan, Kansas. She and many other dedicated members of my family have been working endlessly to make the first walk in K-State country a successful one for the Alzheimer's Association.
For those who don't know, the Alzheimer's Association is an organization I fully support, because I have lost a loved one to this dreaded disease. My grandma, Fern, battled it for over a decade. I will be walking and raising funds so that they can advance the care, develop a means of support, and research efforts in ending this nightmare.
The facts and statistics on Alzheimer's are beyond comprehension. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course.
Please consider joining me in Manhattan's first Walk to End Alzheimer's or by donating to the cause. Either way, I appreciate your support.
