I am raising awareness and funds to fight against Alzheimer's for my Grandma Sandy. Before Alzheimer's, my grandma was warm, social, and bubbly. She had a big personality, lots of hobbies, and a large social group. She loved spending time with friends and family, she really loved celebrating holidays, and was was an avid supporter of the performing arts and local sports teams. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and she made the best biscuits and gravy in the world.

Today, my grandma has been fighting Alzheimer's for six and a half years. This cruel disease has taken her personality, her independence, her hobbies, and her ability to walk and speak coherently. It truly is the long goodbye. I would give anything to go back in time and spend one more Christmas with "Sandy Claus" or drive to the fairground early to get the best view of the fireworks that she loved so much. I am getting married this November, and for the time being - my grandma remembers me as "her favorite", which is a title I do not take for granted. I hope and pray that she will remember me on my wedding day, but that's the thing about Alzheimer's - it is unrelenting and unpredictable .
