A note from the Vice President of Philanthropic Service:

For 34 years, Sigma Kappa has been partnered with the Alzheimer's Association in the fight to end Alzheimer's disease. Sigma Kappa is the first sorority to recognize the need for a more comprehensive study of aging and the needs of the elderly population in the community. In 1984 Sigma Kappa decided to place an emphasis on the 6th leading cause of death that affects so many sisters and their families, Alzheimer's Disease. Each year, Sigma Kappa chapters across the country participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

As Vice President of Philanthropic Service for Sigma Kappa Epsilon Mu, I bear the responsibility of heading our Walk to End Alzheimer's team. I love watching our chapter come together each year to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. But I don't just do this because it's my position. I do it because too many of my sisters have been affected by Alzheimer's disease. We walk to help reclaim the future so nobody has to go through what so many of our loved ones have or are currently going through. We walk so that families don't have to watch their loved ones slip away. We walk to cherish our memories forever. We walk to support those fighting Alzheimer's and their caregivers. But most of all, we walk to support the Alzheimer's Association.

In January, I had the opportunity to represent Epsilon Mu and attend the Alzheimer's Association Leadership Summit in San Antonio, TX. It was there that I got to see up close the passion of every Alzheimer's Association staff member and the huge impact that the Alzheimer's Association has on not only research, but care and support. This organization makes a tremendous difference in the lives of millions of people affected by Alzheimer's. When we one day find a cure for this disease, we will look back and be able to see how important the Alzheimer's Association was in that discovery. From funding research, care and support resources, to advocating for Alzheimer's funding from state and national legislative bodies, the Alzheimer's Association is making a difference. I, along with my sisters at Epsilon Mu, fully believe there is no organization more worthy of your donation.

That being said, the Epsilon Mu Chapter of Sigma Kappa at the University of Missouri prides ourselves on being the top fundraising team for Sigma Kappa in the Nation since 2013.  We are incredibly thankful for those who have given to us in the past, and we are asking for even more support as we work to beat our new team goal of $85,000! Please consider making a donation to our team or to your favorite Sigma Kappa's personal fundraising page. Together, we can advance research to treat, prevent and cure Alzheimer's and provide programs and support to improve the lives of millions of affected Americans.

Sincerely,

Abby Struttmann
