One month after 2016's walk I lost my mom to Alzheimer's. We put my mom in the nursing home first in 2015 and 18 days later dad followed. Mom died on October 22, 2016 and 18 days later dad died of Alzheimer's. Even though we didn't tell him, the day after she died he started to shut down. That just proves that even though this disease can destroy the mind it can't destroy the heart and soul of a person. It has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. It is  a horrible disease! To me more heartbreaking than cancer. This is a disease that robs you of your loved one. And robs the person with Alzheimers of a life they deserved to live to the fullest. I have already lost my parents to this horrible disease but I want to help stop it from hurting other families the way it hurt us . It is a horrible feeling that nobody should ever have to experience.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. To stop any friend, child, parent, sibling or spouse from every having to experience the horrible pain of losing the person you love to this disease.

The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.

Join our team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease. Together, we can advance research to treat and prevent Alzheimer's, and provide programs and support to improve the lives of millions of affected Americans.
