I was in forth grade when my life was turned upside down. My mom, who was only 46, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. The next 8 years we watched my mom go from a vibrant, confidant, kind woman, to a quiet and confused shell of herself. I love my mom with all my heart and want to be just like her in every way but one: I don't want to get Alzheimer's.
This December will be the 10th anniversary of my moms death. Although every dollar I raise and every step I take will always be for her, each day I walk a little more for myself as well, and to one day see the first Alzheimer's SURVIVOR at one of the walks.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
