Everywhere I go, I run into people who have a personal connection with Alzheimer's without telling people who I am or what I do. I was raised in a family that gives back to the community; a blessing of fulfillment that comes from a life of service, no matter how small. I'm one of those people who can have $1 to my name and want to help someone less fortunate than me.
This is my 12th year participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer's event. My family has lost countless members over the past decade. I have been a caregiver, a volunteer, a team captain and an advocate multiple times. I know what it's like to walk in the shoes of 5 million other families across the country.
I walk for my family. I am an only child and I want the legacy I leave to make an impact. Like I said earlier, I'm a doer. I don't sideline well.
I walk for families who feel pressured by cultural restraints and don't know that we are here and how much the Alzheimer's Association can help.
I know that we are closer than we think to something that will break open the way to treat, prevent and possibly cure Alzheimer's in the next few years. That's HUGE. Participating in Walk through raising funds to support vital clinical research will make those things a reality.
Bottom line, I walk for my family and yours. We are all in this together. Memories are all we have of one another. Let's make this a good one.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
