News and Announcements

We are just days away from this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event on Oct 27 at Pecan Square Park in New Town, and I wanted to share a few logistics with you:

Weather  The Walk will take place rain or shine and would only be cancelled in the case of severe weather such as a hurricane, tornado, or lightning. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.

Parking Plenty of free parking is available in the parking lots behind Joanne Fabrics and Barnes & Noble.

Registration  Online registration will close at noon this Friday, October 26, but participants can register the day of the Walk. Registration opens at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.

Money You can turn in money at the Registration tent. Please keep car raffle ticket money separate from all other donations. Be sure to let us know what team member(s) should be credited for the donation(s), and write the total amount enclosed on the outside of the envelope.

T-shirts Individuals who have raised $100 or more are eligible to receive a T-shirt. If your team captain has not already picked up T-shirts, or if you are walking as an individual, go to the Registration tent where you will be given a ticket to turn in to collect your T-shirt.

Car Raffle Tickets All sold and unsold car raffle tickets must be turned in by October 27. Car raffle tickets may not be sold after October 27. You can turn in sold and unsold car raffle tickets at the Registration tent. The car raffle will take place on November 14 on the Hampton Roads show. Winner need not be present.

Promise Garden Flowers Every registered walker will receive a Promise Garden Flower. Be sure to pick yours up before the Walk begins. The different colors represent different things:
·        Blue – I have Alzheimer’s disease
·        Yellow – I am caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease
·        Purple – I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s disease
·         Orange – I am an advocate for those with Alzheimer’s disease
Please note: Participants are limited to one flower each, so pick the color which best represents your relation to the cause.

Team Photos will be taken in front of the WTEA backdrop located across from the Registration tent.  Please share your photos on social media and use the hashtags #Walk2EndAlz and #ShowYourPurple.

Walk Route The Walk begins at Pecan Square Park and will take participants through the residential areas of New Town. Volunteers will be stationed along the route to direct you. Both a 1 mile and a 3 mile option are available.

Opening Ceremony begins at 9:40 AM.

Closing Ceremony will begin when all walkers return, approximately 11:15 AM.  We will recognize the top 5 fundraising teams, the top 5 individual fundraisers, and announce fundraising totals to date. There will also be door prizes, but you must be present to win.

Lunch After the Walk, we invite you to enjoy lunch at one of the New Town restaurants supporting the Williamsburg Walk to End Alzheimer's. Show your Walk wristband and 10% of your purchase will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Participating restaurants include Center Street Grill, Cogan’s Deli, Corner Pocket, and Paul’s Deli in New Town.
