We are just days away from this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event on Oct 20 in Port Warwick, and I wanted to share a few logistics with you:
Weather The Walk will take place rain or shine and would only be cancelled in the case of severe weather such as a hurricane, tornado, or lightning. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.
Parking Ample free parking is available in the Sentara parking lot.
Registration Online registration will close at noon on Friday, October 19, however, people can register for the Walk on Walk day. The Registration tent opens at 8:30 AM.
Money Turn in donation money at the Registration tent. Please keep car raffle ticket money separate from all other donations. Checks should be made out to the Alzheimer’s Association.
If you are dividing a donation up between team members, be sure to let us know how much money each team member should be credited.
T-shirts Individuals who have raised $100 or more are eligible to receive a T-shirt. If your team captain has not already picked up T-shirts, or if you are walking as an individual, go to the Registration tent where you will be given a ticket to turn in to collect your T-shirt.
Promise Garden Flowers Every registered walker will receive a Promise Garden flower. Be sure to pick up your Promise Garden Flower before the Walk begins. The different colors represent different things:
Please note: Participants are limited to one flower each, so pick the color which best represents your relation to the cause.
Car Raffle Tickets There will be a car raffle tent set up across from Registration where you can purchase car raffle tickets. If you have any unsold car raffle tickets, please turn them in on Walk Day at the car raffle tent.
Team Photos will be taken in front of the WTEA backdrop located behind the gazebo.
Walk Route The Walk begins at Styron Square and takes us through Port Warwick back to Emily Dickinson Square. Both a 1.5 mile and a 3 mile option are available.
Opening Ceremony begins at 9:40 AM. Tony Macrini of WNIS AM790 will be our MC.
Closing Ceremony will begin when all walkers return, approximately 11:15 AM. We will recognize the top 5 fundraising teams, the top 5 fundraising individuals, and announce fundraising totals to date. There will also be door prizes, but you must be present to win
