All throughout my life, my granddad, Bubba, was always a huge motivator for me to achieve my goals. He always pushed me to go to college and be a better person. As a little girl I was always around him, we were best friends. But as I grew older, I watched the man I love become more distant and disconnected from reality all because of his disease. During my Junior year of high school, Bubba's disease took him away from me and my family, just before he could see me complete all my goals like graduating high school and going away to college.
Every year, I continue to grow and shape myself into the woman Bubba wanted me to become. I wonder all the time what he would think or say about who I've become in the past few years. I know he would be proud of me, all of my cousins, and dad, and both of my aunts, for keeping his spirit alive in simple ways. He would be proud of my grandma for still being her spunky self, and for all of us saying his quirky sayings all in his memory. To this day, if I like something I'm eating I still say "it's the best thing I've ever put in my mouth".
I miss Bubba everyday, but I still find ways to honor him and make him proud through the activities I participate in. My sorority, Sigma Kappa, is a huge supporter of the Alzheimer's Association, and that is one of the huge reasons I decided to join the organization. Donating to this cause is just one way I feel like I can continue on Bubba's legacy of being a passionate man who cared about everyone, even though sometimes he might have had a funny way of showing it. Thank you again, for all of your help and support!
