Between playing "cops" in the basement, fishing at the local park, grilling hot dogs, and listening to Johnny Cash, Grandpa was always by my side. When I was younger, I always loved to be around him, however it wasn't until I hit high school that I realized why I admired him so much. He was an incredible man. He was beyond intelligent, had the biggest heart for us grandkids, and had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Although as Grandpa's Alzheimer's progressed, he sometimes forgot our names, he never lost those three characteristics.
For more than 30 years, Sigma Kappa has been partnered with the Alzheimer's Association in the fight to end Alzheimer's. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's. Because there is currently no way to prevent, cure, or slow the progression of Alzheimer's, that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. As the largest nonprofit contributor to Alzheimer's research, the Alzheimer's Association plays a vital role in this fight, which is why I am trying to raise money for this cause.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. On October 14, I will be walking with my sisters in the Columbia, MO Walk to End Alzheimer's. Please consider making a donation to my page to help Sigma Kappa reach our goal of raising $100,000 this year!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
