As many of you know, we hold this cause near and dear to us. My grandmother, Josephine Collura, suffered the effects of Alzheimer's. This cruel disease did not attack her love, compassion or physical ability for the most part, but it did cause her to slowly lose hold of all those memories we had created as a family and prevented her from making memories with us later in life.
Rob and I had the joy of introducing her to two of our sons and were happy they had many chances to visit with her. Although she did not remember us as time progressed, we enjoyed making her smile, singing with her or letting her tell us about all the things she supposedly did that day. While she was not able to cherish those memories in the same way we did, we will hold them in our hearts forever.
Rob and I have many other family and friends who have been touched by this terrible disease including Rob's Grandfather who the boys and I did not get a chance to know. His family also has a team walking at a different location. We are honored to walk in memory of him and my gram as well as in honor of all those still living with this illness. We are walking to help reclaim the future for millions of others who suffer from this disease. By participating in the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer's(tm), we are committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, prevention, treatments, care and support.
This is our 10th year walking as a family! The Alzheimer's Association helped us to help Gram in so many ways and we are happy to support them with our efforts. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read our note and for any support you can give! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
