On May 3, 2018, my grandfather James “Jimmy” E. Graham, Jr. breathed his last breath just two hours before his 83rd Birthday. Gramps succumbed after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s, a period in which my family and his friends witnessed his erosion from a gregarious, starry-eyed, and sharp-witted force into a timid and often lost, albeit still starry-eyed shell of his former self.
This year marks the 4th assembly of “Foo’s Crew”, a team invoked in 2015 to honor my grandfather all of the wonderful things he is. He lived his life dedicated to the service of others, first as the eldest of six in a poor Philadelphia family, then as a Corporal in the United States Marines and Air Force, then as a husband and father, then as President of the NALC Branch 46, and finally as a grandfather. His legacy and story live on in the lives of those he touched. Still, we need your help.
Alzheimer’s is the single greatest public health risk of the 21st century. It is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
