I have decided to Join the Cause for a few reasons, however my main one is because my Grandmother Kay Thorpe is a current victim of Alzheimer's, she has had it for around 12 to 15 years, we are guessing. She just celebrated her 89th Birthday this past November. She is a mother of 9 children, (she always wanted a Baker's Dozen), she has too many of us grandchildren and great grandchildren to count or list us all. For those of us who got to spend quality time with her I know we all miss that time. I personally can't stand the fact of knowing my children will never get to spend that quality time with her the way that I did. I also hate that her great grandchildren will not have the chance to know her quirky, energetic self the way us grandchildren got to know her until the Alzheimer's Disease struck and took that away from an entire family. I myself personally remember the sleepovers at grandma's and the midnight shopping trips to Wal-Mart, and the morning Steam Rollers she gave us if we didn't want to get up or were still sleeping. A Steam Roller was when she would lay on the ground next to us and roll her entire body over us until we either woke up or got up.. She is a huge fighter with a lot of strength left in her. I know that we can't find a cure or treatment for her, but I believe we can for the future and to help others not have to go through what my Grandmother and our Family are going through.
As of May 30, 2016, my grandmother; this beautiful mother of 9 has lost her fight. She is now in HEAVEN dancing with her parents, sisters, sons, daughter and nephew that have all passed before her. Although we will all miss her dearly, we know she is now no longer in pain and we will see her again in time. WE LOVE YOU KATHERINE THORPE, and may you REST IN PEACE!!
