Kevin's Walk Donation Page
Julie and I want to be right up front with you. We are putting the arm on you and we expect you all to give a lot. We are fine if you want to bitch about it to us or others!!
We will be participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® in New London on September 15. Our goal is $1,500 and we would like to blow that out of the water so feel free to donate the entire amount or more if the mood strikes you! I was schooled by a certain Coach Calhoun at a Diabetes fundraiser a few years ago and learned the trick isn't running up the requested donation, it's finding a way to press the bet, so the fine print on our request reads that Julie and I will match your donations.
With or without donating we invite all of you to join us on the walk. Be aware it will probably rain on the 15th but for your efforts, we invite you back to the house after the walk for some food and strong drink.Getting down to business, the purpose of the walk is to raise funds to support research but also to raise awareness and we can use your help.
Donations are tax deductible and benefit the Alzheimer's Association. This organization offers an element of local community-based assistance to individuals as well as providing essential stimulus for research and government support.
While Julie and I have directly benefitted from the advice and personal advocacy offered by the local chapter of the association, less than 5% of all Alzheimer's victims are under the age of 65 (Early Onset Alzheimer's) and as such the association has literally no programs designed to assist young, physically fit sufferers.
Julie and are committed to working with the association to increase the resources and support offered to those afflicted with Early Onset Alzheimers. There is a great need for local and probably regionally assistive networks supporting the unique needs of early-onset victims and their caregivers. While the early work will have to be done by interested parties like us eventually these networks are best developed and administered by the association.
The stated goal of the fundraising is to end Alzheimer's, our goal is shorter term and more direct; help develop support for early onset victims and their caregivers.
Thanks for taking the time to consider our request. If you would like to help please visit our page at the link below and feel free to pass the link along to others you believe it may annoy.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
