Rachel's Walk Donation Page
I'm helping reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was too little to understand. She drove to my house frantically to claim that there was a "strange man" in her house that would not leave; this was my grandfather. I remember watching her story unfold as I grew up and seeing her mistake my father for her husband. I remember hospice services telling us she ate "like a bird." I remember her asking me for "a big, wet kiss" when I was too prideful to give her one, regretting it later. I remember my older sister using too many tissues when my grandmother was on her bed with the "death rattle." We created photo collages of our family complete with name tags hoping to spark some familiarity. We visited at least once a week. But still, Alzheimer's has no sympathy. Alzheimer's does not care how much your family loves you.
This is the story for too many. It needs to end here.
And it starts with you. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
