As some of you may know, my father, Gerry, age 68, is struggling each day of his life with Alzheimer's, actually more then struggling. This is real and the disease is horrific. Watching his mind deteriorate day after day is heart breaking and devastating. I struggle and break down every time I spend time with him. He's not the same person, he's this empty shell of a man, however, he, thank goodness, still remembers his loved ones, but I know that will eventually not be the case. Watching him go through this and watching my mom struggle everyday to care for him is also devastating. Now I know why they say it's harder on the caregiver because it truly is. I know my father would not want to live like this nor put his family through the this horrible disease. It has now gotten to the point where he can't be left alone so he goes to Adult Daycare 5x a week, which is gunt wrenching in itself. I've experienced taking him and picking him up. This strong, loving, very smart man is no longer. This disease has taken over his mind and his sole. I don't wish this on anyone and that is why I'm joining again the fight against Alzheimer's and I'm hoping you will too.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease.
