I am walking in honor of a family friend,Nathan Killough. Here is his story, written by his wife,Julie:
. Nathan was diagnosed with Alzheimers in March of 2016.He was just 53 years old. A few years before, he was laid off from a job he had for almost 30 years. HIs first symptoms appeared as depression, which would be expected from anyone in his situation. No motivation, confusion, forgetfulness, sleeping patterns that are mixed up and unhealthy. A simple cognitive test from his primary physician revealed there was much more to his symptoms than depression. She labeled it Dementia and referred him to a Neurologist. HIs Neurologist ordered a Nuclear MRI scan and a cognitive CAT scan. Unable to follow directions for the cognitive test, we relied fully on the nuclear test and the results showed plaque build up on his brain. He then had a cognitive test from a neuropsychologist that resulted in a definite Alzheimer's diagnosis. He could no longer drive and our primary goal is to make sure he is safe. He has progressed slowly mostly due to the medications he is on, but he has progressed none the less. We are hopeful that some day there will be a cure. Someone will be the first person cured of this horrible disease. I pray it will be soon.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
