Jennie's Walk Donation Page
Family, Friends and Walkers;
My sister Mary (Matie to me) has always been my role model, heroine and staunchest supporter. Mary was a guiding force. She gave of her talents and enrichments selflessly. The oldest of five, she did not pursue, but was thrust into the role of Mother Hen. working tirelessly to keep myself and our three brothers in line!
Life doesn't always deal us a "winning hand". Many of us have dealt with the obstacles life has thrown our way. Mary persevered superbly through a long and demanding business career and served as caregiver to our mother. Mary lost her husband to violence, jolting her into the role of single mom, but....SHE NEVER LOST HER FOCUS!
But Alzheimer's was an obstacle of another type, one Mary had had no experience with. To this dreaded disease, Mary lost her dignity, her keen intellect, her objective reasoning, her creativity and her incredible memory. Mary no longer was the unique, poised, and grand lady we all knew, respected, and loved. Although she is no longer the sister she used to be, Mary continues valiantly her struggles to cope with Alzheimer's and she maintains her sweet compassion. My admiration for her has not faltered.
Alzheimer's, the 6TH leading cause of deaths in the U.S., continues its scourge across the country, knowing no boundaries, NO ONE is exempt! This brain-stealing disease continues to afflict more than 5 million Americans and most disconcerting, that number is poised to grow. Despite those daunting numbers, we will continue our efforts to conquer this indefensible and degrading disease. We must alter the course of this sickness....our future is at risk.
Please join in this battle to halt this dreaded disease; to keep MARY'S HOPE GROWING; to reach the Alzheimer's goal for a cure by 2025 and a step closer to a world without Alzheimer's. You can walk and/or make a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association through my Walk Team.
