Many people think Alzheimer's Disease is just forgetting, losing memory, etc. It is much more than that. It is forgetting how to walk, to talk, to eat, to get dressed, and much much more. It is a disease that is often looked past and to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, care, and support is very important to my family, my sorority, and myself.
I am walking to End Alzheimer's for my Nan and all of the families and caregivers that are affected by this disease. As many of you know, my grandmother (Nan) has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's for quite some time now. There are many things I have learned about this disease I have watched the disease progress with my Nan.
My grandpa, who likes to take care of Nan, is also getting very exhausted and his health is declining. Nan has a caregiver during the morning, throughout the day, and the evening, now 7 days a week. This gets to be very expensive for my grandpa, who is also now needing more help as well.
For the Walk last year, I was overwhelmed by the support I received from friends, family, and even businesses as they reached out to help and ended up raising near over $700. I'm committed to raising $900 this year for awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. Find it in your heart to reach out for families like mine, those with the disease like Nan, and for caregivers everywhere.
We will never forget those who cannot remember!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
