News and Announcements

This Saturday is the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Mason City, and we want to make sure you're prepared for the day.  Here's what you need to know:

  • Registration will start at 8:00am, and that's also when we'll open our Silent Auction.
  • Parking will be on the east end of Mason City High School.
  • When you arrive, greeters will help direct you to registration.  Everyone needs to register!  If you do this online at act.alz.org/masoncity, that will speed up the process.  You'll have an envelope into which you can put donations or money that you raised.  Then you'll get a wristband for your Promise Garden flower.
  • If you raised over $100, you'll also get a t-shirt.  If you raised $500 or $1,000, you're a Champion or Grand Champion, respectively!  Go you!  There are medals and shirts coming your way!
  • Check out our Silent Auction inside of the school!  We have quite a few different baskets filled with a big selection of items donated by people and businesses from around the community!  There will be gift cards, wine, gift baskets, hand-painted china from local clubs in Iowa and Minnesota, decorative antique window frames and lots more!
  • Cash and checks will be accepted at the Walk, but checks must be made out to "The Alzheimer's Association" for them to count.  There will also be an option to donate through your cell phone, too.
  • There will be snacks, coffee, music, and nursing students from NIACC will be on hand to give blood pressure screenings.
  • The Opening Ceremony will start at 9:00am, and the Walk itself will start as soon as the ceremony is complete.
  • The Walk route will take us around the south side of the school, then north along Illinois Avenue.  At Asbury Drive, we’ll take the walking path through the neighborhood.  It will wind around and then turn south, with an optional longer loop adding half a mile to the route.  The walking trails ends at Birch Drive, which we will then take along the river to 4th Street SE, where we will return to the school.  The total length of the route is just over two miles (with the optional route adding another half a mile).  See picture below (alternate route in green).
  • Pets are allowed if they are well-behaved and on a leash.
  • The Walk should be done before 11am.

We're under the two-month mark until the Walk!

It's hard to believe, but September 30th will be here before you know it.  Haven't started your fundraising yet?  There's still time to reach your goals and help this great cause.

Have a look at this A to Z list of fundraising ideas!  Which have been your favorite?

Also, as we get closer to Walk, check your email for some Challenge Week contests where you could win prizes and swag to bring on Walk Day. Challenges include adding more members to your team, updating your profile, raising a certain amount of money and so on.
