Alert: Thief at large!
We are all concerned about the safety of our family and friends. But there is a known thief in our midst getting away with stealing our most important possession: our identity. Alzheimer's is a lurking danger; we never know when or who it might strike. It can stop you from recognizing your loved ones and they from recognizing you; you are disappeared.
I starting participating in the Walk a few years ago when one of my neighbors who had just started a new career as a pastry chef, something she loved, had to stop working, leave our neighborhood, and move to Hilo to be the caretaker for her mother who had Alzheimer's. Chris Ridley, the Alzheimer's expert here, visited her, and gave her much needed support to allow her to both take care of her mother AND herself. Caregiving can be overwhelming and guilt-ridden without such support.
And today, the cure may be in sight: new brain research is zeroing in on the cause of this disease. But research costs money. Many of us are wiling to pay for protection against identity theft from stolen credit cards or social security numbers. We should also be willing to contribute to stop the worst identity thief of all! Rmember, the identity you save could be your own.
PLEASE JOIN MY TEAM (named "We Forget") OR MAKE A DONATION! THANKS!
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
