***(Today I was reminded of my first experience with Alzheimer's. Some 45 years ago my best friend and neighbor's Mother had Alzheimer's. She was a sweet soft spoken, kind women who suffered at a very young age and for many years. As younger kids this was very difficult to watch and understand. But I also have many good memories that always have stayed with me. So it will be my honor to also walk in memory Shirley Mahan )
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
So many times in the last few years I watched that beautiful mile wide smile that my mother always has go away to be replaced by confusion, frustration, fear, depression and sadness. From a person of laughter and kindness to aggression and paranoia that I could never believe was possible in my Mother. These are just a few of the heartbreaking things that happen as we watch our Mother suffer through the stages of Alzheimer’s / Dementia. Having watched my Aunt Gen and both Grandmothers suffer through the same disease I thought that I was somewhat prepared for this, but I now know nothing can full prepare you for what they go through.
So I am hoping that you will help us try to change the course and end Alzheimer’s disease in the future. Please donate in the hope that others may not suffer as my Mother, Aunt, and Grandmothers have.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
