My personal commitment to help create a world without Alzheimer began with the loss of my Mother. I knew that one day I would be separated from her, but this disease forced our goodbyes. I started my goodbye to my Mother well before she passed and when the light of understanding faded from her eyes. My goodbyes spanned a period of four years.
Although my Mother is gone I continue to live a life surrounded by Alzheimer Disease. My son-in-law recently lost his Mother who lived with Alzheimer's for six years. This past year I lost my Aunt (my mother's younger sister) to Alzheimer's. A friend continues to stay strong as she lives the Alzheimer's journey with her partner.
We are nearing a time when Alzheimer is taking hold of our country. Today, it is the single largest unaddressed public health threat facing the nation today. As many as 5.4.million Americans are living with the disease and nearly 15 million are acting as caregivers. I think we need to join forces to alter this path.
I'm participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, an event that raises awareness and funds to advance care, support and research. With your help, my daughters and granddaugther will live in a world without Alzheimer's.
Please consider supporting my efforts with a donation. Or, join our team, Mamie's Stallions (named after my Mother and because we really need to move quickly) to help raise funds and walk together. The end of Alzheimer's starts here, with a gift from you.
Thank you for your support.
