Bernadette's Walk Donation Page
I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions by participating in the 2018 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's™. I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. My commitment to this cause is a personal one, having lost a loved one to Alzheimer's.
My mother, Josephine Collura was the light of my life! A caring and compassionate woman, mom always put others first, not only her family members whom she loved deeply, but also those she encountered throughout her life; neighbor's, friends, and strangers alike. She was an active mother of seven and grandmother of many. Often in household, we'd hear mom shout her famous, endearing words "what are those gosh darn kids into now?" She persevered through any difficult situation with patience, humor and great faith. She worked tirelessly to support many charitable, civic organizations. Her love for her local community and her country inspired her volunteer work in local and national political campaigns. Her goal was always to have a positive outlook and make an impact in the world both of which were achieved through her faith in God.
Despite being diagnosed with early stages of dementia in her seventies, my mother continued to live an active and fulfilling life with the assistance of her family/caregivers. As the disease progressed, it was heartbreaking to witness the declining health of a once unstoppable woman. More devastating, was knowing that the memories of all she held most dear; family, friends and life's many special moments past and present, were slowly slipping away. In May of 2011 Mom lost her battle with Alzheimer's. Twelve years ago I formed our team, "Those Gosh Darn Kids", and we began walking in Walk to End Alzheimer's in honor and in memory of my mother. I and many of my family members do so in hopes of an end to Alzheimer's disease and to regain the future for our children and grandchildren.
Please consider making a donation, or by participating this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's which will take place at Patriots Place in Foxborough MA This Saturday, September 22, 2018.
