A Tribute to Helen Bell

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of a great woman in the community, Helen Bell, who passed away July 20, 2016.  As many of you know, Helen spent many years dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease in the community.  Her husband George was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in Denver 1979 before Doctor's in the area knew much about the disease.  He passed away in 1984 and Helen then organized the local Support Group and continued as the chief facilitator until October of 2013 when she handed off leadership of the Group to Dick Warneke.  Helen read everything she could about Alzheimer's disease.  Caregivers contacted her by phone, visited with her in her home and/or attended the twice-monthly Support Group meetings.  In the 1990's she organized the first North Platte Memory Walk and ran it herself until health issues prevented her from continuing a number of years ago.  She traveled to speak to various groups about Alzheimer's and what to do as a caregiver.  We would like to thank Helen for all of her efforts and tireless service to the community.  Her loss is deeply felt.
