What You Need to Know for This Weekend!

This Saturday is the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Fort Dodge, and we want to make sure you're prepared for the day.  Here's what you need to know:

 

  • Registration will start at 8:30am, and that's also when we'll open our Silent Auction.
  • Parking will be on the south side of the Middle School (a previous email mistakenly mentioned the high school. We are walking at the Fort Dodge Middle School!)
  • When you arrive, greeters will help direct you to registration.  Everyone needs to register!  If you do this online at act.alz.org/fortdodge, that will speed up the process.  You'll have an envelope into which you can put donations or money that you raised.  Then you'll get a wristband for your Promise Garden flower.  If you raised over $100, you'll also get a t-shirt.  If you raised $500 or $1,000, you're a Champion or Grand Champion, respectively!  Go you!  There are medals and shirts coming your way!
  • Check out our Silent Auction inside of the school!  We have around 20 different baskets filled with a big selection of items donated by people and businesses from around the community, with everything from gift cards to crafts and a wide selection of decorations, wine, shirts and food!
  • Cash and checks will be accepted at the Walk, but checks must be made out to "The Alzheimer's Association" for them to count.  There will also be an option to donate through your cell phone, too.
  • There will be games for children and also some snacks.
  • The Opening Ceremony will start at 9:30am, and the Walk itself will start as soon as the ceremony is complete.
  • The Walk route will take us up toward the roundabout and north along the west sidewalk of 32nd street.  It will then cross the road and head back south along the east trail.  Walkers then have an option of taking a longer route around the Aquatic Center or just returning to the school along the original path.  The short route is around two miles in length and the longer loop adds another half a mile to it.
  • The Walk should be done before noon.

 

So come on out this Saturday for the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's!  Bring some friends, enjoy the day and help us take a step toward making a world without Alzheimer's!  I look forward to seeing all of you out there!
