Andrew & Colleen Kelly
is fundraising to honor:
all those facing Alzheimer's
to fight Alzheimer's
On September 10, 2017, I lost my mother Dorothy Kelly to Early-onset Alzheimer's. Every day for 8 years before her death we lost pieces of her over and over. Pieces of her laughter, humor, guidance, support, and love that we would never see or feel again. The stages of this disease are so cruel, not only to the afflicted but also to their caregivers. So brutal, that only 9 days before Dorothy's passing, my father, George Kelly, died from a sudden and debilitating respiratory disease brought on by the stress and depression of being that caregiver.
There is nothing I can write about Alzheimer's that is good or promising. Millions of people are being consumed by this devastating disease and if you don't already know someone affected, you will.
Alzheimer's should be a rare disease, but it is not. It has become an epidemic and all you need to get Alzheimer's is a brain. There is no cure or magic pill to slow the progression.
We can make a difference.
Together we can work towards finding a cure. When hundreds or perhaps thousands of people stand united and donate, monetarily or with time, to a common cause, that is when change occurs.
The Longest Day
On October 6th, my husband Andrew is running the Oil Creek 100 miler in Titusville, PA. A non-stop 100-mile trail run that twists through the mountains of western Pennsylvania. A challenge designed to honor those afflicted and those that have fallen victim, to a deadly menace that can be cured.
The Longest Day is a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Today, over 35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 5 million Americans. In the U.S. alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer's disease that they are not alone. Please make a donation today to help Andrew reach his goal. Thank you!
