is participating to honor:
My Dad was diagnosed with Progressive Dementia in 2013 and is now in the Late Stages of the disease. His journey gets more difficult everyday - he is now in a wheelchair and has difficulty talking and swallowing.
Team Ascend's mission is to commemorate my Dad and all those suffering from Alzheimer's and related dementias by hiking several Front Range peaks, including climbing a Colorado 14er. The long, arduous journey of hiking mountains simulates the uphill battle faced everyday by those suffering from this incurable disease. We also do this to recognize all those that give care to those suffering with Alzheimer's as their journey is also a very difficult one.
I challenge and invite anyone with interest in hiking to join Ascending for Alzheimer's team. You will be fundraising for Alzheimer's Association so that, with necessary research, one day we can live in a world without this devastating disease. The purpose of the hike is not necessarily to summit, but to spend time together, remember those that suffer from dementia and Alzheimer's, and talk to others on the mountain as to why we are there. It will be a fun, challenging, memorable experience.
