is participating to honor:
her mom and dad
I'm participating in The Longest Day to show my love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. On June 23, my team will be joining others around the world and doing what we love to honor people living with Alzheimer's, their caregivers, and those lost to the disease, while raising funds and awareness to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
I lost my mom to Alzheimer's disease. I lost my dad who had a dementia which showed its head after he had a stroke. I participate to honor them.
My team member, Ralph Williams, was tossed into the role of caregiver a few years ago and remains in that role for his wife Sandy who was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer's in 2011. I am participating to honor Ralph and all others serving in the caregiving role for their loved ones.
My team is hosting a bowling event at the Big 20 candlepin bowling center in Scarborough ME because my mom and dad were bowlers back in the day and Ralph and I both currently enjoy bowling on a league. We will be candlepin bowling on June 23 from 12 noon to 7 PM. The owner of Big 20 has generously agreed to donate 50% of the proceeds of the money we bring in from bowling activities and shoe rentals that day! We'll be selling baked goods at Big 20 that day with proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association. Please consider bringing friends and family to join us at Big 20 on June 23 to have some fun and help us raise some money!
Today, an estimated 47 million people across the world are living with dementia. This number is set to skyrocket to 75 million by 2030. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. These numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.
Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer's disease they are not alone. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s and provide care and support to those facing the disease today.
