is participating to honor:
his wife Darlene.
I'm participating in The Longest Day to show my love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. On June 21, I am joining others around the world and doing what I love to honor people living with Alzheimer's, their caregivers, and those lost to the disease, while raising funds and awareness to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
I have experienced being a caregiver for my wife Darlene who was diagnosed dementia in 2008. I took care of her until I no longer could due to concerns for her safety and increasing medical demands. She entered a memory care facility in October of 2014 and she transitioned on 6 March of this year. I thank God every day for the caregivers at that facility who have the love, patience, and training to deal with those afflicted day in and day out.
I am an ACBL-certified Director of duplicate bridge and run a weekly game where players compete for ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) master points. I also am an ACBL-accredited bridge teacher.... I love bridge! So, for me, it is a perfect fit to raise funds for The Longest Day playing and doing things associated with bridge. Our bridge group will be holding all-day activities on the 21st of June at Farina's Winery & Café to raise awareness of Alzheimer's, and to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association to continue its fight to combat, and find a cure for, the disease.
Today, an estimated 47 million people across the world are living with dementia. This number is set to skyrocket to 75 million by 2030. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. These numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.
Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer's disease they are not alone. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s and provide care and support to those facing the disease today.
