is participating to honor:
I am a tramatic brain accident survivor.
I am almost 51 years old, and when I was 8 I walked in front of a car and skidded across route 3 on my forehead.
I suffered what is termed now, shaken baby sybdrom.
And after time in a coma, and a broken leg I had to relearn a lot of things.
I joke and say I wait for my diagnosis of Alzheimer's. But I probably will not get one.
My brain has Demyelination areas in it. Which puts me more on an MS scale.
In my work life I have felt blessed that I have not been overly effected by this as a problem, except for a real bad temper since that is where my injury is,
But i have been blessed, and have tried to be there for those less fortunate thatn me.
With the influx from the sports world of brain injury diagnosis filling the headlines, I feel that this is a worthy and timly cause.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathyaccording to Wiki this what it is
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease found in people who have had multiple head injuries. It is most commonly found in those who have participated in contact sports on a regular basis. Its presence in domestic violence is also being investigated. It can affect high school athletes after only a few years of participation. It is a form of tauopathy.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's, I watched Ali, and so many others get knocked around for a paycheck. Now the families are paying the price.
With so many coming back from serving our country, that have been subjected to brain rattling sittuations, the number of diagnois is going to exceed the common thought process.
And finally why am I involved?
BECAUSE I LOVE MY FELLOW MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD, and THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS PAIN AND SUFFERING TO BE DEALT WITH ALONE.
