Mama's Sweets

Join our team for The Longest Day, a day that’s all about love for all those affected by Alzheimer's disease. We’ll do what we love to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. We are honoring Mary Brown aka Mama (mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend) on Saturday, June 10th at Fosco Park located at 1312 S. Racine.  Mama absolutely loved sweets and having a dessert with her dinner was a tradition. We are having sweet tasting fundraiser to honor her.  You will be able to make your rounds tasting sweets and purchase the yummy goodies.  Join us on Saturday June 10th 1pm - 4pm.

If you make an online donation the event is free or you can make a donation at the door to enter the sweet tasting event.

Kimlona's Tribute

My grandmother, Mary Lee Brown, was diagnosed with dementia in May 2004 and Alzheimer’s April 2008. The love I have for my grandmother is the type of love that goes to infinity.  She has always been there every since I can remember.  I have so many fond memories of her as a kid, teenager, and adult.  She was an amazing grandmother to all her grandchildren.  We were all truly blessed to have her to be a part of our life.  I remember it was time for me to finish college and my daughter couldn’t go to day care until she was six weeks old.  The summer semester was starting when she was only four weeks old.  My grandmother left the family to come to Carbondale for two weeks to help me with my baby.  She would always help her children, grandchildren, and anyone if she could.  When she was diagnosed I was in denial because it seems like she would always taught about forgetting things.  I gave her a birthday party and we had a great time.  As I prepared to take her home she turned to me and ask who cooked all that good looking food.  It hit me like a ton of bricks.  I told I her I did and asked if she would like some to take home.  I dropped her off at home and cried all the way home.  She was well taken care of over the years.  She moved in with my mother Ethel and my brother Charles, aunt Mary, and family took great care of her until she passed October 24, 2016.  They were the ultimate home care team and my grandmother was truly blessed to have them. She is truly missed. We love you mama!
