I decided to create a team for The Longest Day because Alzheimer's Disease affects both sides of my family. Both of my grandmothers, who have always been the foundation for our family, have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Our team consists of family members from both sides of the family, as well as friends who have been directly effected by Alzheimer's in one way or another! Please be sure to check out my teammates' personal pages, as they too have stories as to why they are participating in this event.
I chose the name "Preserving Memories" for many reasons. One is that I think so often we get lost in the negativity of the disease that we forget to cherish the memories that we have when all was well. The more obvious reason I chose this name is that eventually, we all hope to have a cure or way to prevent Alzheimer's...essentially forever "preserving memories".
On June 21, my team is participating in The Longest Day, an event to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer's disease. My local teammates and I will be walking the length of Manhattan (13.1 miles) to raise awareness for our fundraising activities. Other teammates have signed up to participate in a variety of activities where they are located!
Together, we can advance research to treat, prevent and, ultimately, cure Alzheimer's, and provide programs and support to improve the lives of those affected today.
