MEET JESSICA "My family has supported the Alzheimer's Association since my grandfather was diagnosed and ultimately passed in 2006. His wife, my grandmother, was just moved into the same memory care unit where he stayed and is also now living with Alzheimer's. My nana passed with a type of dementia as well. Seeing how this horrible disease not only steals precious memories but also changes one's personality is #whyibvb, since genetics is not on my side."

I have 2 major reasons why I BvB. 1. I've trained or currently train 2-3 dozen of the girls on both teams. The amount of energy they put into what I care about demands reciprocation, so I started getting involved with the things that they care about. 2. I'm afraid of Alzheimer's. I'm not afraid of diseases you can affect. As a personal trainer, I promote healthy habits. There are many diseases these healthy habits prevent or make less likely. You can't do anything about Alzheimer's. I'm a nerd so anything that would threaten my ability to think is just plain terrifying and I want to help anyone who has to deal with this disease.

"I BvB because I had no idea what I was signing up for, but ended up getting so much more than I could imagine. New to Raleigh, a lifelong athlete with a newfound love for flag football, I thought I'd meet some new people while getting to feed my competitive need. Little did I know the amazing group of girls (and guys!) I would not just meet, but instantly become a part of. All of this, while simultaneously supporting the fight to #endALZ - a disease that has affected my family first-hand. On game day I won't just be #BRUstrong, but also playing #forGrampy."

Meet Courtney Porter-Hicks recently married one of our previous coaches & has played BvB in two different cities! "I started BvB to make friends and play football, but my passion for the organization has increased so much over the past 3 years! Learning more about the Alzheimer's Association and understanding how many people the disease effects is truly heartbreaking. Alzheimer's shows no discrimination, and while I personally have not been affected within my family, I know so many people that have and how important it is to find a cure for the cause. I BvB to make sure as few people as possible have to experience the physical and emotional challenges associated with Alzheimer's!"

"I play BvB because it brings a wide range of people together for an amazing cause! I was new to the area and needed a way to meet like minded people - BvB gave me the opportunity to meet some amazing women and men who I would have never known otherwise. As a rookie last year, they welcomed me with open arms and now a year later, many of these ladies are my best friends! We workout together, we support each other, and we all strive for our goals together."
