Meet Dawn, a 5 year BvB Raleigh vet & 3rd year Co-Chair: I BVB for a cure. When I started playing 5 years ago, I played because it was fun and I missed being part of a fierce team of women! Since I started, my dad has actually been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and is now living in a memory care facility. He was diagnosed with a Minor Cognitive Impairment 2 years ago this month. Until you've had to become the parent to your parent, I don't think you can ever really understand how truly awful this disease is. So now I play for him, and I will continue to advocate for him, and people like him, so that one day we have a survivor ribbon. My hope is that we find a cure soon, so that the next generation doesn't have to go through what we're going through.#oneteamonegoal

I joined BvB because I wanted to be a part of an organization that raised money and awareness for a cause that I personally have been touched by. I have family and patients with Alzheimer's and Dementia, and I have watched it take their memories away little by little. In my field of work I see a lot of caregivers for Alzheimer's patients, and I want to do whatever I can to help ease their transition. They see their loved one, their friend, their spouse, the person that they have shared their greatest moments with, slipping away. That is #whyIBvB. I do it so that someday no more memories will be lost.

I BvB because my Grandma not really knowing who I was towards the end of her life is one of the most heartbreaking things to witness. She passed on St. Patrick's Day, which is my favorite holiday. Everyone says I'm just like her and I miss her everyday. And since then, I've watched other friends or family go through the same heartbreak. If we can prevent other families from this and be advocates for further research, then I'm all in! I'm a 5th year vet, and I can't believe the great gals and guys that come together for the cause - it's amazing to be a part of it! #endalz

My Grandma suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and SHE IS WHY I BVB!!! She had 13 children & over 28 grandchildren! Although she passed away when I was young, I distinctly remember times when she did not remember who she was nor the life she led. She did not remember the fun we had as a family, or the memories we made. Unfortunately, she became the shell of a person imitating the Grandma we all knew & loved. This disease can imprison anyone! This disease can & will steal memories and recipes! This disease can be stopped with more research & more testing. That is WHY I BVB!!

This is my first year living in Raleigh and joining BvB. I was captivated by the love that the blondes and brunettes have for each other and this organization. I knew immediately this is something I wanted to be apart of-not only for the social aspect, but to help fight and find a cure. My aunt is a fighter and she’s been battling dementia for several years. I've seen first hand how nasty this disease can get and how it effects her and her loved ones. By joining BvB, I join her in the fight. I BvB to find a cure. I BvB for her. #BvB #ENDALZ

This is my second year doing BVB and I love it even more this year. I BVB because Alzheimer's is a terrifying disease for not only those who have it, but for family members and friends who have to watch a loved one go through it. My great grandmother, great grandfather, and great aunt have all passed from Alzheimer's. I've seen the pain my grandmother has gone through with the passing of her family members. I want to bring awareness so that we can help all of those affected by Alzheimer's.
