Dr. Douglas Brewer is a central Georgia native having grown up in Warner Robins. His beautiful wife of 22 years is local artist Cherry Brewer. They have a daughter Sydney, who is a junior and in the Phi Mu sorority at the University of Georgia and a son Preston who is a junior at Stratford Academy in Macon. After completing his surgical residency in Louisville and his colorectal surgery fellowship in Boston, Dr. Brewer returned to Macon in 1994 and established the regions first colorectal surgical subspecialty practice, Colorectal Surgery Associates. He is excited to join Navicent Health Physicians Group in May 2018.
Dr. Brewer has a personal connection with dementia as his mother Darlene suffered from it during her last years of life battling cancer. His family also has personal experience specifically with Alzheimer’s disease as Cherry’s grandmother Momma Mae suffered from and ultimately passed away with it. Finally, as a Surgeon he sees the difficulties that patients and families deal with every day in his practice, but also knows that ultimately we will FIND A CURE! Therefore, Dr. Brewer dances first to honor those patients and families who have in the past or are now bravely dealing with Alzheimer’s disease but also to raise awareness and money to support the research required to find that cure.
